Psychotherapy - Individuals
In this session, Reem will be providing humanistic, person-centered therapy integrated with emotionally focused therapy and mindful self-compassion. This may include exercises based on mindfulness which may consist of breathing exercises aimed at promoting relaxation and grounding. Emotionally focused therapy is an experiential, present-moment therapy process that will involve labeling present-moment emotions and tuning into present-moment bodily felt sensations. Emotionally focused therapy may include an attachment-based assessment which can involve Reem asking you personal questions about past relationships and childhood. These questions will be helpful to Reem in serving you best.
Coming from a person-centered, humanistic orientation, Reem believes that every individual has a basic inclination to become fully functioning, develop, and grow psychologically. Of fundamental value to helping clients achieve that and to the success of therapy as well, is the relationship between the client and therapist. Working from a solid client-therapist alliance, and focusing on the here and now, Reem’s primary focus is working with the affective world of the client in supporting the client in moving toward self-actualization.
Because Reem sees each client as unique, she seeks to enter the client's phenomenological world as a curious and open listener to the meanings within the client’s experiences. As she walks with the client, seeking a view of the client’s landscape in each therapy session, with a position of cultural humility, she becomes a permanent student in realizing each client’s lived experience, in context. Emotionally focused individual therapy (EFIT) is an essentially non-pathologizing orientation, promoting the client's natural propensity to grow and adapt. Anxiety and depression are combined into one mutual classification, namely negative emotional disorder; all emotional disorders can be characterized by frequent and intense negative emotions. The presupposition is for therapy to provide growth and adaptation and an increased capacity for self-compassion and understanding.
As a Certified Practitioner of the Art and Science of Humanistic Neuro-Linguistic Psychology (HNLP), Reem may integrate elements of HNLP, such as Time-Based Techniques.
